About this certification

Most houseplants that die indoors are killed by kindness, usually in the form of a watering can. This program sets out the accredited standards of houseplant custody: how to water, where to put your plant, which species forgive beginners, and how to read the signs before a minor problem gets worse.

Custodians who complete the program will be able to diagnose a yellowing leaf with confidence, choose a window by compass direction, and resist the urge to "just give it a little drink" when it doesn't need one.

What you'll learn

  • Why overwatering is the leading cause of houseplant death, and the finger test that prevents it
  • Matching plants to light levels and window directions
  • Four beginner-proof species, including which ones are safe around pets
  • Symptom diagnosis: yellow, crispy, leggy, and gnat-infested
  • Repotting and fertilising on the correct schedule
